Open the Writing Room on the Script tab and choose Import.
Fountain imports directly. Final Draft (.fdx) is converted, preserving scene headings, action, character cues, parentheticals and dialogue. Plain text is structured by indentation and capitalisation.
PDF works for text-based files — anything exported from Final Draft, Celtx, WriterDuet or Word. A screenplay PDF encodes indentation positionally (a character cue is drawn further right, not indented with spaces), so the importer reads those coordinates back to recover which lines are cues, dialogue, parentheticals and action.
A scanned PDF is refused. A scan is a stack of page images with no text in it at all; extracting it needs OCR, which is not wired in this build. Rather than importing an empty script that looks like a bug, it tells you to export from your screenwriting app as Fountain, FDX or text instead.
Every import lands as a new script version, so it never overwrites work.
